CASE 666 is supported through a grant from the Creative County Fund.

During the early morning of June 19th of 1873, in Port Sarnia, Ontario, Elizabeth Workman was hanged for the murder eight months before of her husband James .

A battered woman, as indicated in the newspaper excerpt to the left, she may have just been defending herself.

Following the trial, the jury found her guilty of murder. Knowing the circumstances of her daily life, they recommended that she be shown mercy.

But she still hanged and is, to this day, the only woman hanged in Canada after a jury and/or judge had recommended mercy.

The story of Elizabeth and the court case, actually numbered 666/1873, is presented in my latest book, titled

CASE 666 - Travesty of Justice.
